Dear Brothers and sisters,
It’s easy to get lost in a new place. I got lost walking the mountains and driving along the streets of Malvern. It’s sort of fun when I face it with an adventurous spirit. But it was really difficult one night when I lost my direction in the heavy rain. I walked to and fro the mountains and gradually know the paths with the help from others. After one week, I could give directions to other hikers. ‘For everyone who asks receives, he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.’ (Matthew 7:8)
I have walked through the 30 acres grounds many times in the college but I got lost, then I discovered an old-growth forest. The 30 acres is not only a number to me now, it’s a territory. ‘The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places.’ (Psalm 16:6) He is good, and His kindness ensures forever.
There are a lot of insects in summer, especially in the bushes. I was walking up the mountain with Cherry while a swarm of insects swooped onto her yellow wind-blower. It’s really scary. I was bitten by a wasp behind the ear another day. A student nearby took a look and thought it’s nothing serious. But my neck was swollen the next morning. The GP prescribed 10 days antibiotics to me and I gradually recovered a week after taking the medication. The rain and the wind had carried the insects away then. Different experiences in life help us grow.
The two months in the seminary opened my eyes and widened my knowledge, but the most precious lesson is from Word of God.
‘But He said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ (2Cor 12:9)
‘Love your Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind, … Love your neighbour as yourself.’ (Matt 22:37-39)
‘We love because He first loved us.’ (1John 4:19)
In Christ,
Sam Wong
