Dear brothers and sisters,

The church held the Induction Service for Pastor Peter Lee last Saturday (6/12). We thank other brothers and sisters from other churches for attending the Service, we thank specially for Rev Henry Lu and Rev Sam Shem to lay hands and pray for Pastor Peter. Rev Lu reminded us that the foundation of the church is ‘Christ and Him crucified.’ (1 Cor 2:2)

Let us continue to pray for Pastor Peter, Sheywen and the English congregation for the Lord’s care, guidance and establishment, to preach Christ and bring people to Him.

Chinese people honour their parents, it’s also included in the Ten Commandments, with no conflicts, but somehow some Chinese people think that their children will disobey them when they become Christians, and that put pressure when people consider the faith. Do Christians disown their ancestors? The main argument is mainly on Funerals and Qingming Tomb-sweeping.

ChristianAncestralWorshipThe Cantonese group held a workshop on ‘Christians and Ancestral Worship’ last Wednesday (10/12) to define the meaning of ‘Ancestral Worship’, is it purely a way to remember the love of our parents, or is it superstitious? Most traditional funerals include superstitious practices, it’s hard for Christians to change them in the Chinese Community. We should do our best to honour our parents when they’re alive so that they can experience our love to them.

Christians should definitely show their respect during funerals and Qingming Tomb-sweeping, yet deny any superstitious practices with determination.

‘Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved – you and your household.’ (Acts 16:31)

In Christ,
Sam Wong
