Dear brothers and sisters, 2609b

Every year, I often have mixed feelings when leaving Hong Kong, it’s even more so this time. We just cannot do anything about time.

One of my primary schoolmates passed away recently. I still remember the scenes when we ran around at school. He’s the fastest physically and mentally. Unfortunately he joined the Triads and tried many times to rid of his drug addiction through different gospel organization. I met him briefly at the MTR a few years ago and it’s the last time seeing him.2609a

Last Sunday (20/9) I attended a church that celebrated their anniversary. They counted the Lord’s blessings in the Service, and shared how they preached gospel through their work in the community. Faith is passed on from one generation to the next and witnessed the fullness of families. 32 years went by, they saw opportunities in crisis and testify Jesus Christ with faith, hope and love.

That afternoon I watched a play ‘Year 1587’. Watching the play is very different from reading the book. The officials were corrupted in the Ming Dynasty. They were both detestable and pitiful. I like a few novels written at that time about the pathetic ordinary people throughout the history. The joy of Chinese people is poetic imagery, and their pain is to pursue surviving and a peaceful life.

Before the play, a Putonghua-speaking university student behind me asked me, ‘What happened in 1587?’ I pointed to the translation on the stage, ‘1587, A Year of No Significance: Ming Dynasty in Decline’.
What about 2015?

In Him,
Sam Wong
