Dear Brothers and sisters,
An one-hour flight is quite relaxing, having some snack, watching the scenery under the clouds and people on board, and it’s the destination.
A 12-hour flight is Ok for two people, watching a film, taking a meal with no expectation, being sleepy and idle, trying to get a few hours’ sleep is not impossible. But it’s indeed a hard job taking a toddler on a long-haul flight.
Small children are active. It’s hard to make them put on the seatbelt which is not designed to children and unattractive. The difference in air pressure during take-off is bad enough for an adult, not to mention a child. How can they overcome it with screams? Yet our little precious put on her own seatbelt quietly and worked hard on her raisins without a word. When the aircraft soared, she’s contented with the atmosphere.
Despite the gift, the child’s meal, the animation, the patrolling of the aircraft, the flight is still too long for a toddler. With the unexpected light and noise and limited space, the little one couldn’t get in a sleep though she needed it desperately. She expressed her frustrations through cries and attracted the concerned stares from the nearby passengers.
The plane landed at last. We got through the immigration quickly as a family. The customs officer asked, ‘How are you related to this child?’ ‘Grandparents,’ we proudly declared. ‘Is there any proof?’ she stared at us closely.
How can we prove our blood relationship? But for spiritual relationship with our heavenly Father, the Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children, …that we suffer with Christ, that we may be also glorified together. (Romans 8:16)
Suffering with Christ we are testified to be the children of God!
In Christ,
Sam Wong
