Dear brothers and sisters,
I have experienced heat wave, heavy rain and typhoon threat during my stay in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and 4 weeks went quickly.
Hong Kong, my native land, a familiar yet strange place, I got used to the daily life easily through the delicacies. I encountered the 4-yearly Legislative Council Election during my stay. The Election Day was surprisingly exciting. There were still long queues outside some election centres when they’re closed at 10.30pm. Some people had to wait for 3-4 hours in order to vote. It’s never happened before. The result brought the beginning of a new generation.
I felt strange looking at the Victoria Harbour from the Peak. The crowded concrete buildings have blocked the beauty of the mountains and the sea. One of my Taiwan friends said that he loved the Peak the most. I don’t know how to respond. He went on, ‘The night scenery there is 3-D.’
I was very happy to be able to swim in the beach this year. I felt so little under the blue sky and in the green sea. It looked peaceful on the sea level, but there were swirls under the sea. Swimmers cannot boast but got to be alert and focused all the time.
I spent the Mid-autumn festival with families and had a great time. Little Carys ran around happily with her lantern and met other children. It’s her third Moon Festival in Hong Kong. The moon was full and bright and beautiful.
‘When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?’ (Psalm 8:3-4)
In Him,
Sam Wong
