Dear brothers and sisters,
My mind is occupied by the people and events of Hong Kong while I was there. I preached in the church where I grew up and the church I used to serve for two Sundays respectively, meeting old friends and my mind went back to the 1970s and 80s, those were the days when young people worked hard to achieve their dreams.
I have left Hong Kong for a long time and she is so distant to me now. I came across some young people on the streets and had a chat with them. They were very willing to answer questions. The following are some of my questions:
‘How long have you been here?’
‘Did you sleep here last night?’
‘How long do you plan to stay?’
‘Under what circumstances will you leave here?’
‘How does your family think of your action?’
‘What would you say to those who are affected by this?’
Some of these young people are students, some are working. They have different aims in life, but are all concerned about the Hong Kong political system, demanding a common suffrage under the ‘two systems’ but not the ‘one country’ conditions. Hong Kong is a Special Administration Region, the ‘One country two systems’ practice itself is contradictory. It’s a test for the politicians who need wisdom and ability to resolve the tension. This ‘Occupation Movement’ has lasted over 40 days, let us continue to pray for peace for Hong Kong.
‘Seek the peace and prosperity of the city. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.’ (Jeremiah 29:7)
My grand-daughter Carys has grown taller and gained weight. It’s good that I practiced a lot in Britain, so holding her is not a problem and she enjoys sleeping in my arms. Cherry looks after her well, Carys can now sleep through the night but it’s hard work attending to all her needs during the day, please pray for Cherry.
I’m flying back to Cardiff in 3 days; let us remember each other in prayers.
In Christ,
Sam Wong
